Famous Haunted Houses

The term haunted can conjure up all sorts of images – from an ancient castle to a crumbling hospital. The fact is, there are plenty of haunted places in the world and many people believe that they’re inhabited by the spirits of dead victims.

In some cases, ghosts appear because of something that went wrong during their lives – a murder, a injustice or a violation of rules. Others may be a victim of violence, exploitation or mental illness.

Often, these haunted houses are popular with homebuyers who want to get a deal. In other cases, people are drawn to them for their own reasons.

Some states have laws that require sellers to disclose any material facts, including a house’s haunted status, to prospective buyers. Nevertheless, many of these laws are outdated.

A few of the most famous haunted houses are listed below:

Old Changi Hospital

This abandoned hospital was built in 1935 and was used by the Kempeitai, the Japanese Imperial Secret Police, as a prison and torture camp during World War II. It was then turned into a hospital until it was closed in 1997.

The hotel is rumored to be haunted by its former residents, with visitors and staff reporting a number of odd occurrences, such as the phone ringing, pillows being tossed and blue water appearing in bathtubs.

Fort Mifflin

This Revolutionary War fort is the only one in the country that’s still intact. It’s filled with ghosts from the past, including a woman who has been seen screaming for help and a man who is said to have been hanged for treason.
