What is a Ghost?

Ghosts are human spirits that remain on earth to finish unfinished business. They are typically victims of accidents or murder and haunt their place of death. Unlike jinn, ghosts usually retain their former personalities and can communicate with living people. They also have a tendency to revisit places they experienced great emotions in life. Ghost stories were once more than just tales of fright; they served as cultural and spiritual narratives, reflecting the values and ethics of societies at the time.

The most familiar type of ghost is a dead loved one, often a family member or close friend who can appear in any form. This kind of ghost is usually benign, but it can be malevolent too. Whether a ghost is friendly or hostile depends on the nature of their unfinished business and what they want from the living world.

Most ghosts are able to manipulate the environment around them. They can make sounds, move objects and even touch people. They can also manifest themselves in a variety of ways including wispy, distorted or flickering forms. They have a natural affinity for what caused their death and can manipulate the elements like fire, electricity or water.

They can also latch their essence onto particular objects which allows them to continue haunting the object and even relocate it. More powerful ghosts can use telekinesis to manipulate objects at will and can create Ectoplasm. A very angry ghost can even possess humans just like a demon.
