A haunting is the presence of a spirit in a home or place. The most common sign is hearing noises like banging, whispering and crying that cannot be explained by another source. It is also common to feel a presence close to you or around you at times when it shouldn’t be there.
Other signs include doors opening and closing on their own or cabinets moving by themselves. It is also common to hear noises in haunted houses that can’t be attributed to wind or animals, such as footsteps, screams or voices. If you are experiencing a haunting, it may be helpful to pray and ask for help from whatever higher power you believe in to calm the spirits that are invading your space. It is also helpful to smudge your home with white candles, sage or sweet grass in areas where the activity happens most often to cleanse the house of any negative energy that may be there.
If you are having recurring nightmares and trouble sleeping, a haunting could be the reason why. It’s important to remember that hauntings happen most at night when you are more prone to be spooked.
While some ghosts are malevolent, most are not. It is often a loved one or relative that comes to check in during times of happiness, sadness or stress. If you have a friendly ghost in your home, it can be beneficial to lay down ground rules for it, just as you would a rambunctious human house guest.
